Spelman College Museum of Fine Art and Clark Atlanta University Art Galleries each have permanent collections numbering several hundred pieces. Spelman College, the country's oldest historically black women's college, exhibits visual art made by women of the African Diaspora. It is the only art museum in the US with that focus. The Spelman College Museum of Fine Art is located on campus in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Academic Center. The permanent collection features more than 350 works by noted African American artists. The collection includes paintings and sculptures by Elizabeth Catlett, Nancy Elizabeth Prophet, Valerie Maynard, and Selma Burke. The museum also contains significant works from Africa, with a concentration on the art of central Africa.

Spelman College is located at 440 Westview Drive. Museum hours are Tuesday-Friday from 10am-4pm and Saturday from noon-4pm. Suggested donation is $3.
